Particularly famous is the cave of lovers. According to legend, two young lovers took refuge in the cave for shelter from the wind, but died embraced swallowed by the waters of the sea.
The tourist port of San Foca
The tourist port of San Foca is one of the most important on the coast after Otranto one. The fishing boats come back to the port every morning from night fishing. The port is surmounted by a coastal watchtower dating back to 1568, when Salento was often the subject of Turkish raids. This tower, well preserved and restored, is now the seat of the harbor master’s office.
